PROLOGUE
I don't know you but I know you
I don't want to but I want you
Sometimes a smile's just a frown upside down
You turn me upside down
And if it's longing that makes this art
Am I lost from the start
'Cause all these grasping hands don't see the emptiness
What can fulfill... hungry heart
They say it comes to those who wait, if you keep on
And if Saint Peter's at the gate, I'm sure you'll be a chosen one
So let me stroke your pretty face and chase all those cares away
Yeah, the blinds are pulled down tight; I'll make everything alright
And how do you measure the passage of time
By cities and highways the one you're loving tonight
Put on that smile again, turn up that wistful charm
But please don't play with me; I see who you are
They say it comes to those who wait, if you keep on
And if Saint Peter's at the gate, I'm sure you'll be a chosen one
So you can rest your weary head and I'll caress you into sleep
And with these whispers in your ear, I'll make all of your dreams so sweet
All of your dreams sweet
Let the world turn without you tonight...
I'll protect you and keep you safe…

All of You
04:39
|
|||
All of You
I cannot think about you without thinking of you lying in my bed
Could not strike the image of your naked body out of my head
Want you near me; what is it about you feels so different
Press against me; push me down, hold me down, I've no defence
Where you're concerned all the rules will need to be broken
Just this once, not going to look before leaping my heart flung wide open
Can't afford to fall in so blindly, this frail girl she's still on the mend
Please be gentle except when she begs you to take her again
I am the fire that's burning and you are the breath that is fanning this flame of desire
Hold me closer; this keeping your distance is keeping this wanting alive
Someone save me from my own weakness, these needs that I cannot deny
I'm a prisoner, this body my keeper, this aching to have you inside
I wanted to take all of you…
Please, take me or leave me do something to free me, I can't bear much more of this
I have waited days upon weeks that have passed since the night we first kissed
I recall the way that you smelled and your tongue in my mouth
Oh so wet from your lips on my neck I might perish without
I wanted to take all of you…
I'm a puppet on a string

Never Beholden
05:08
|
|||
NEVER BEHOLDEN
I romance your image in your absence
I make it up as I go along
Why go outside when the weather's cold and dreary
I've got these thoughts to keep me warm
Found it's best to fly your flag at half mast
These winds could turn upon a dime
Won't last forever but it's never over
Always a matter of time, time, time
Won't try to push you from that high ground
Looks to me you feel at home
Another night drinkin' until sunrise
Is another night I spend…
No, a steed like you is never broken
Though you might let me think you're mine
Can't be corralled, never beholden
He's just along for the ride, ride, ride
So you can go ahead and feed on this body
Play your games with this precious mind
Ain't nothin' else on the table
'Cause this heart, this heart is……
Pero, el fuego tuyo cuanto me enciende
Tu pasión no tiene igual
Cuando tocas como quien respira
Me lleva a lo primordial
Entonces puedes consumirme físicamente
Juega tus juegos con mi preciosa mente
Veras que hay algo ausente
Porque mi corazón…. no se vende
So you can burn my lips with searing kisses
Sting my eyes with that beguiling smile
There ain't nothin' else for the takin'
'Cause this heart, this heart
Go ahead and feed on this body
You can play your games with this precious mind
Ain't nothin' else for sale here 'cause this heart, this heart……
is…. mine

Moving Target
05:11
|

Moving Target
When the fever broke I saw you
saw you standin' there
had you been there all along?
Said I'd been gone for days, just ramblin'
at times not makin' sense
things I should not have said
And you looked like you'd seen a ghost
but you were lookin' right at me
And if truth is a moving target
looks different from all sides
where's the ground I can put my feet on
to keep it in my sights?
All the townsfolk with their whisperin'
these voices in my head
tellin' me lies again
Said you'd be headin' south for winter
maybe be gone for good
like I knew you would
Just because it was my voice
don't mean i had a choice
And if truth is a moving target
looks different from all sides
where's the ground I can put my feet on
to keep it in my sights?
And as you turned around to go
all I wanted you to know
loved you better than myself
maybe that's where I failed
And if truth is a moving target
looks different from all sides
where's the ground i can put my feet on
to keep it in my sights?
And if truth is a moving target
looks different from all sides
gimme ground I can put my feet on
to keep it in my sights

Pinprick

Pinprick
Just a little pinprick and freedom for awhile
Hurts only for a minute then it's all rolling waves and endless sky
In the middle of the night she's your best friend
The stars all look so bright 'til daybreak comes and they're gone again
Just a little secret avoids a fight
It doesn't take a genius to know what's right
Puttin' on your best dress the one he liked so well
Try not to remember the way he looked at you the way you felt
Just a little pinprick and freedom for awhile
Hurts only for a minute then it's all rolling waves and endless sky
Turn a trick or two just for old times' sake
Doorman says 'I know you, can't recall your name but I'd never forget that pretty face'
And she wraps you in her lovin' arms and takes you nowhere
And there's nothin' more you want than to stay there
Just a little pinprick and freedom for awhile
It doesn't take a genius to know what's right
In the middle of the night she's your best friend
She's your only friend
The stars all look so bright 'til daybreak comes and they're gone again

Fortress
04:35
|

FORTRESS
Out out damn spot
Why can I not
Forget my lot
And start again
Please look at me
Why can't you see
I'm what you need
'Cause we are both broken
Innocence met circumstance
Can't reclaim what you once had
Were we not born holy
Penance 'til the end of time
What can I do to make you mine
What kind of heart longs to be lonely
And all that I wanted is yours to give
But you hold it so tightly clenched in your fist
Did I make it too easy; failed to play it right
Guess nothing seems worthy without a fight
Condemnation, punishment
Trespasses we don't dare admit
Just say your Hail Marys
But church and state can't keep you safe
Late at night there's no escape
Some wounds we carry
The fight was fixed, the game was rigged
I placed another losing bid
Are some of us just tragic
Vengeance for the things they've done
Does the tallest fortress mean you've won
Is this really what you wanted
We've all got our demons but we're more than this
The strongest among us knows his weaknesses
You think you're Gibraltar but i've seen your skin
Won't you open the window and let me in
I thought your strength could keep me safe
But it's got your heart locked to that ball and chain
Out out damn spot
Why can I not
Forget my lot
And start again

Was My Heart
06:03
|
|||
WAS MY HEART
It was my heart
In its weakness
Dragged me down
To the deep end
There I found you
Ocean floor
Wreckage all scattered around you
A ship and its captain, their glory no more
When will we see that all we've got is the breath in our lungs
and this fine day
we've got this fine day
I suspect
You're not telling the whole truth
But it's not just me being deceived
It's ourselves we lie to
Late at night
In the dark of my bedroom
Touchin' myself I imagine it's you touchin' me
Like I've always wanted you to
Is it presumptuous or just plain crazy believin' that somewhere inside
you want me
do you want me
Oh this man of such gravitas
Draggin' a heart that's so heavy how else could it be
So full up with regret
Oh this girl who just wants to hold him
Dispense an elixir to free him to see her as she is
A tender and sweet lonely lass
You can't reclaim innocence it's just what's left when we let go the past
why can't we let go?
It's all dead and gone
It's all dead and gone
Wanted to fall, feel your arms catch me
Wanted to fall, feel your arms around me
Wanted to fall into your arms
Wanted to fall… wanted to fall…

Naive
05:11
|
|||
NAIVE
Thought you could want without need
always so sweetly naive
You made her
now you have to love her
Black holes both drawn to each other oh
fill me up
Stay under the covers
stay with me tonight
Reckless and naked oh
shake that heart off your sleeve
Always so careless
where you bleed
Little girl on her own
wonders why she's all alone
She's a big girl now and
she can take care of herself
I don't need to
I just wanted to
I don't need you
but i wanted you
Who said big boys shouldn't cry
and did you think to ask him why
Don't big boys have hearts too
If tenderness is weakness then
I'm weaker than i've ever been
with you
I'll hold your dreams for you
if you want me to
I believe in you
is that what frightens you
The night we touched
your lips on mine
You said it wasn't me
it was the wine
If that heart was made of coal
the weight it bears would change it
You'd be shining
from the inside
I don't need you
But I wanted you
I believe in you
is that what frightens you

Autumn Song

|

AUTUMN SONG
When you look at me I can feel your heart
When you say my name mine skips a beat
As the Fall winds breathe will this want remain
Or will it fade away like the browning leaves
like the browning...
You ask if I can sing
Next to you can I do anything
Make you want to stay
Take this want away
Like the night the great waves washed their homes away
No rescue squad could save that day
No one to save the day
Taken all but these, the clothes on my back
Truth comes crashing down, we are powerless
we are powerless
You ask if I can sing
Next to you can I do anything
Make you want to stay
Take this want away
And they wept as they grasped at the pieces
Swept one by one out to sea
All I have, this heart that feels
All I have, this next breath I breathe
And your hands around my waist
Your ear pressed to my chest
Now that you can hear me
Disappear me
Your arms around my waist
Your ear pressed to my chest
Now that you can hear me
Disappear me….

The Package They Gave
06:44
|
|||
THE PACKAGE THEY GAVE
All my wants
like a package they gave
the day I was born
seems they're here to stay
All my dreams
from where I'd tucked them away
flooded back to the fore
the day that you came
I'm fighting the urge to throw it all down and fall at your feet
They say 'Life ain't a fairytale girl' and I say, 'Well, why can't it be?'
yeah, why can't it be
She wakes up at dawn
puts the coffee pot on
lifts the boy from the bed
into the first rays of sun
His arms 'round her neck
with one eye open to see
sleepy smile on his face
there's nowhere else she would be
I'm fighting the urge to throw it all down and fall at your feet
They say 'Life ain't a fairytale girl' and I say, 'Well, why can't it be?'
why can't it be
The soft skin of your cheek
under brush of my lips
The arch of my back
into your fingertips
I catch my breath
when I remember your kiss
Don't want no one else
'cause it won't feel like this
I'm fighting the urge to throw it all down and fall at your feet
They say 'Life ain't a fairytale girl' and I say, 'Well, why can't it be?'
I've tried to explain but you're seeing red when I'm saying green
There's no misunderstanding when we're in bed, your arms around me
I'm fighting the urge to throw it all down and fall at your feet
They say 'Life ain't a fairytale," I heard it, I'm asking you, why can't it be?
Isn't life what we make it and learning to love what sets us free?
So I'm gonna keep asking, I'm gonna keep asking
